Steven Kim manages the DOHC Stroke Clinic to provide and coordinate optimal care for post-stroke patients who may be struggling with new life difficulties from the event, including disability and fear of recurrence. Along with neurologist Dr. Esmaeil Sebti, they work to facilitate each patient’s path to recovery, together with physical and mental well-being. Dr. Kim says, “We want to empower each patient with the knowledge and tools they need for a healthier lifestyle and to reduce their burden of chronic diseases and preventable complications.”
After graduating University of California Berkeley with a B.S. in Nutritional Science & Toxicology, Dr. Kim completed his Doctor of Pharmacy degree summa cum laude while serving as president of the student chapter of the American/California Pharmacists Association. He completed a pharmacist residency at Desert Oasis Healthcare (DOHC), covering a variety of different patient clinics, including Anticoagulation, Cardiology, Cardio-metabolic, Infectious Disease/Hepatitis C, Managed Care/Behavioral Health, and Pulmonary, as well as COVID and MPX.
His mother, a registered nurse for more than 40 years, inspired Dr. Kim’s healthcare career as he saw the impact that her compassionate care had on others. “I’ve come to love those ‘Aha!’ moments when my patients understand their disease states better and become motivated to start living a healthier life,” he adds. “Patient smiles and words of gratitude fuel my passion for what I do.”
While encouraging his patients to be proactive about their healthcare and controlling their chronic disease, Dr. Kim is studying Spanish to help build a better rapport and communicate with the large Latinx population served by DOHC. He makes that a priority during his workday because once he gets home, his newborn son Ryan keeps Dr. Kim and his wife very busy!
